Steven Spielberg is directing a film based loosely on his own life, with a Venom star attached to the project.

Variety reports the legendary filmmaker has penned a coming-of-age movie with Tony Kushner, who he also worked with on West Side Story.

The currently untitled project will follow its protagonist, who won’t be called Steven, through his childhood and teenage years in Phoenix, Arizona, which is where Spielberg himself grew up.

Venom actress Michelle Williams is currently in talks to star in a major role.

With the film split across different time periods, auditions are currently underway for young actors to fill out the cast.

The movie is set to begin production this summer and is due for release next year.

As well as exploring the main character’s adolescent years, it will also explore the relationship he shared with his parents.

Williams’ attachment to the project comes as she prepares to reprise her role as Anne Weying in Venom sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

The movie will see Tom Hardy return as the titular antihero, who will face up against Woody Harrelson’s terrifying villain Carnage.

Earlier this month, it was also announced Spielberg is teaming up with Netflix and the Duffer brothers for an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Talisman.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage will be released on June 25, 2021.
