Googles upcoming retailer in New York City might mark the very first time Stadia and its hardware are offered in an in-person store.
One of the advantages of Stadia is that you do not need to buy anything to try it out, as the Stadia Controller is totally optional, and the service offers totally free-to-play video games. That stated, the Stadia Controller– likewise offered in the Stadia Premiere Edition package with a Chromecast Ultra– uses decreased latency and a genuinely great video game controller.
However, because the services launch in November 2019, there has been no other way to purchase a Stadia Controller or Premiere Edition from a retailer. The closest weve gotten is Best Buy using the Stadia Premiere Edition, but only through its web shop.
Today, Google announced its plans to open an in-person, retail Google Store in New York City as an extension of its Chelsea campus. In the post, Google included a speculative image of what this retail presence would look like, with a lot of Googles biggest brands, including Nest, Fitbit, and Pixel, being given popular signs.
One eagle-eyed Stadia fan, Sean McDonald on Twitter, zoomed completely too far into the image– Blade Runner design– and discovered that in among the windows of Googles mockup, Stadia is featured. While the quality of the image might definitely be much better, the “S” of the Stadia logo is clearly identifiable.
If the genuine Google Store NYC pans out to be like this mockup, we can presume that it will be possible for possible players to walk into this store, purchase a Stadia Controller or bundle, and leave with it. Beyond that, there might even be a demonstration station enabling in-store customers to try Stadia for themselves.
In the meantime, theres no other way to be sure that Stadia will include in the NYC Google Store, however if the retail shop is implied to show the online Google Stores products, theres no factor for Stadia to be left out.
