Ring of Honor is making their champs stay active. New competitors for Dragon Lees ROH TV Championship and Jonathan Greshams ROH Pure Championship have been announced.
First on the docket is Pure gold. Gresham and ROH Dojo coach Will Ferrara wished to reward their trainees with an opportunity to earn a title shot. They proposed to the ROH board of directors that Joe Keys, Dante Caballero, Ken Dixon, and Eric Martin get involved in a gauntlet match with the winner getting ranked # 3 and receiving a Pure Championship contest versus Gresham.
That bout happened on ROH Week by Week (starting at 16:25). Dixon beat Martin via powerslam in the opening round. Caballero got rid of Dixon on a crucifix pin variation in the second round. Dixon showed poor sportsmanship with an attack to Caballero after his loss. Caballero rallied back regardless of the discomfort, but Keys triumphed with a raised single leg crab to win the gauntlet. Keys will get his opportunity versus Gresham on next weekends TELEVISION episode of ROH Wrestling.
Dragon Lee is fresh off an effective TV title defense versus Rey Horus, and Brian Johnson is fresh off signing a brand-new contract with ROH. Now, the 2 will go one-on-one at a date to be revealed. Johnson made the opportunity by winning a fan poll as part of ROH The Experience.
ROH Week by Week also upgraded the singles rankings.
ROH World Television Championship5. Kenny King2. Tony DeppenChamp: Dragon Lee
Rey Horus loss to Dragon Lee provided him the boot. Bandido got in at # 5. Everybody else went up one area appropriately.
ROH Pure Championship5. Joe Keys2. Tracy WilliamsChamp: Jonathan Gresham
Flip Gordon was suspended from the Pure division after not appreciating the guidelines in his win versus Rhett Titus. Josh Woods went up one area, and Joe Keys went into at # 3.
ROH World Championship5. Jay Briscoe4. Mark Haskins3. Matt Taven2. Brody King1. Shane TaylorChamp: Rush
This is the debut of the world title rankings. All signs indicate Shane Taylor being next in line for Rush, more than likely at an ROH PPV. Mark Haskins and Flip Gordon both have previous title shots yet to be moneyed in.
Would you bet any cash on an upset success from Joe Keys or Brian Johnson? Do you concur with the present rankings?
