Nearly 6 months after the release of the Pixel 5, Google has revamped the way the GPU works, bringing the phone up to the level you d anticipate from a Snapdragon 765G phone. Hands-on testing reveals the update apparently significantly improves the Pixel 5 GPU, apparently showing performance gains of up to 50 percent in some apps and criteria.
It wasnt an excellent appearance for the Pixel 5, which was currently facing a switch to mid-range hardware that meant it would be slower than the Pixel 4.
Nearly 6 months after the release of the Pixel 5, Google has actually revamped the method the GPU works, bringing the phone up to the level you d get out of a Snapdragon 765G phone. The April 2021 security upgrade for the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G) included a note saying that it consists of “efficiency optimizations for particular graphics-intensive apps & & video games.” Hands-on screening reveals the upgrade apparently dramatically improves the Pixel 5 GPU, apparently showing efficiency gains of approximately 50 percent in some criteria and apps.
We dont have a Pixel 5 on hand to test, however Andreas Proschofsky from Der Standard tipped off the Internet that hes seeing “30-50 percent better” performance in 3DMark after the update. Andrei Frumusanu from Anandtech confirmed “efficiency has been basically doubled from ball games released [in Anandtechs evaluation], and in line or much better than other 765G phones,” including that “the fact it took 6 months is unfortunate, though.” Hmm. Yes.
It wasnt a fantastic appearance for the Pixel 5, which was currently facing a switch to mid-range hardware that indicated it would be slower than the Pixel 4. Criteria enable us to put precise numbers on the changes, but this isnt a trick of benchmarking; the numbers reflected real-world performance when it came to 3D gaming, which was terrible on the Pixel 5.
Google says the April 2021 security upgrade also features electronic camera quality improvements for third-party apps, a repair for a concern that would trigger freezing on startup, and a repair for some missing home screen settings. The update need to be presenting now to Pixel phones– just mash that update button.
