Biomutant caught our eye three years ago, with ambitious guarantees of being an open world, post apocalyptic action-RPG with a mutating lead character who knows kung fu. Now its got a release date of May 25th, at which point well know which of those ambitions made it through.
The video games creative director Stefan Ljungqvist spoke with Colm about the game in 2015, talking through its world and its systems:
And, in fairness, it sounds like a lot of that ambition survived. It had the airships, the mutating lead character, the varied and kung fu battle. It likewise had submarines, hang-gliding, climbing up, and loads more. Breath Of The Wild absolutely seems a reasonable point of contrast, and Ljungqvist compared it to Zelda but with more emphasis on fight.
Im eager to play it. Its not that frequently that theres a game with the scale and evident spending plan of Biomutant that looks so quirky, or which isnt part of an existing series. Im hoping that its systems and open world style are as interesting as its setting.
We have not seen anything more of Biomutant considering that the above video from back in June 2020, and weve not had a possibility to play the game ourselves. Hopefully that modifications soon. The release date statement by THQ Nordic notes that “more information on the video game will be released in the next weeks and months.”
