In an interview with Inside the Ropes, Smackdown vs. RAW writer Justin Leeper discussed what went incorrect with WWE 2K20, which was generally panned upon its release. Here are highlights:
On the time crunch: “Well, it was a really tough situation since whoever you believe on the timeline, Yukes was no longer on the job for 2K20 and they were always on the task for 20 years. They constructed the cars and truck that was pulling the video game to shops every year and when you dont have the mechanic and the chauffeur there and you put and try somebody else in the driving seat, its always going to be tough and specifically with such a time crunch.”
Its heartbreaking to see how difficult they had to work but likewise, they had to work that difficult to get that kind of production to make those kinds of video games. Yukes bore the force of that pressure and they did it well and were constantly kind and always simple and constantly good to work with.”
Visual Concepts was simply not equipped to do the kinda production and make the kinda sacrifices I think that Yukes did to get these games out. Its such a difficult thing for them to do that got taken for granted and I believe when we saw that they werent there … and its their engine! I do not excuse the game for coming out in the circumstance however I know what goes into making video games, and those games in specific, and simply how valuable Yukes was.”
